film will be shown in the groovy moovie mobile cinema at the elefest at elephant and castle during the afternoon.
a variety of short films will be shown all through the festival between 12 and 6, with socpa likely to be on early afternoon.

the elefest is an excellent arts and culture festival at the elephant and castle, and you can find more details here:

but "socpa - the movie" is a late addition so is not on the official listings there

socpa - the movie is an important new film about the 'serious organised crime and police act' which requires notice of any demonstration within 1km of parliament, and allows the police to impose conditions, either before or on the day of the demo.

this hour-long documentary shows the enormous creativity and tenacity of brian and other campaigners appalled at the idea that we have to ask for permission to protest near parliament.

featuring an original music soundtrack and contributions from all the main players who have challenged this law, this film is at times frightening, funny, shocking and deeply moving.

freedom of assembly

at the start of this year the government ran a public "consultation" with the aim of 'harmonising' public order laws governing protest and assembly. the plan appeared to be to require anyone planning a demo to give their details in advance to the police, and to give police new powers to limit protests even down to the size, number and content(!) of placards.

the consultation closed in january, and there was a national day of action on saturday 12th january, to make people aware of the likely repression that would result if we continue to let our government pass these unnecessary laws.

in the face of overwhelming negative response to the consultation, the government then announced two joint committee hearings, which have been hearing 'evidence' from interested parties.

in the meantime, we have discovered that the crown prosecution service has admitted it cannot prosecute socpa cases "owing to changes in legislation" although there have been no official announcements yet.

so, socpa is dead - but beware 'son of socpa' may yet be on the way
